Kuwait supports Tajikistan’s road construction sector

The President of Tajikistan paid a state visit to Kuwait to hold talks on current aspects of development and partnerships.

President of Tajikistan Rahmon arrived in Kuwait to hold meetings and strengthen cooperation between the two countries. The key event of the diplomatic mission was a meeting with Director General of the Kuwait Fund for Economic Development Waleed Albahar. The interlocutors discussed a wide range of issues related to the implementation of large-scale infrastructure projects in Tajikistan, the press office of the President of Tajikistan reported.

The development of the transport sector, the modernisation of the energy sector and the improvement of irrigation systems were identified as the priority areas of cooperation.

The decision of the Kuwaiti side to earmark $100 million to build the Rogun hydroelectric power plan was a significant achievement in promoting partnerships. Emomali Rahmon underscored the importance of this financial assistance for Tajikistan’s energy sector.

The interlocutors discussed the prospects for attracting investment from Kuwait to Tajikistan’s social infrastructure. Particular emphasis was placed on the need to modernise the health sector and develop educational institutions. The participants of the meeting unanimously confirmed that they are interested in expanding mutually beneficial cooperation and ready to implement joint initiatives.
