Tajikistan proposes that SCO Member States simplify freight transportation

The authorities of Tajikistan plan to put into operation over 300 kilometres of transnational highways in the foreseeable future.

Tajikistan invites the Member States of the Shanghai Cooperation Organization (SCO) to join the agreement on simplification of freight transportation. The authorities of the Republic believe that this can have a positive effect on Tajikistan’s economy, as well as on the well-being of the countries in the region, the CIS Internet portal reported.

In Tajikistan, automotive transportation accounts for 95% of the total volume of freight transportation. The Tajik authorities plan to put into operation 317 kilometres of transnational highways in the next 2 years, which should significantly strengthen Tajikistan’s position as an important transport hub in Central Asia.

In the summer, President of Tajikistan Emomali Rahmon proposed that the SCO Member States join the agreement on facilitation of transnational automotive transportation. The authorities of the Republic do not abandon this initiative, reminding the SCO Member States about the signing of the agreement on simplification of freight transportation.

An expert Faridun Usmonov noted that Tajikistan is currently working on streamlining the legal framework within the SCO. The authorities of the Republic expect the Tajik companies to grow, and an opportunity to enter the markets of SCO Member States will therefore be relevant.
