On August 28, National Leader of the Turkmen people, Chairman of Halk Maslahaty Gurbanguly Berdimuhamedov left for a working visit to the Islamic Republic of Iran. Hero-Arkadag was seen off at the Ashgabat International Airport by the officials, Turkmenistan: Golden Age Newspaper reported.
A key priority of the foreign policy of Turkmenistan is to strengthen fruitful cooperation with all countries, in particular closest neighbours, including Iran. The history of Turkmenistan-Iran relations goes back centuries and is being filled with new content at the current stage.
Turkmenistan and Iran established diplomatic relations in February 1992. The countries actively cooperate in the trade, economic, cultural and humanitarian spheres. The main vectors of partnerships are the fuel and energy sector, as well as energy exports and transit.
In July 2024, Iran and Turkmenistan signed the Press Release following bilateral talks on cooperation in the gas industry.
