Chairman of the Cabinet of Ministers Akylbek Zhaparov inspected the progress of construction work on the alternative north-south highway. The road construction project envisages building the longest road tunnel in the Republic, which is 3.89 kilometres long. It is expected to be finished in December, the press office of the Government of Kyrgyzstan.
The tunnel is under construction on the Kok-Art pass. This is not just a long underground road, but the complex with a longitudinal service (multifunctional) gallery. It is 8.5 metres high and 10 metres wide.
The Government reported that ventilation, air supply and smoke removal systems have been installed in the tunnel. The service gallery has a ventilation chamber, an air pressure chamber, an underground transformer substation, fire extinguishing pumping stations, control centres and auxiliary rooms for additional equipment and electrical units. A concrete pavement is being laid in the tunnel.
Construction of the Kazarman-Jalal-Abad and Kyzyl-Zhyldyz-Aral sections with a total length of 126 kilometres was completed on the first project phase of the alternative north-south highway project. It is planned to build about 500 kilometres of roads throughout Kyrgyzstan this year.
