Government of Kazakhstan reports on ongoing measures to improve road infrastructure

Work is underway to fulfil the instructions of President Kassym-Zhomart Tokayev.

The Government of Kazakhstan is implementing the state programme on road infrastructure improvement in accordance with the Decree of President Kassym-Zhomart Tokayev, set out in the “Economic Course of Fair Kazakhstan” Address to the People, the press office of the Prime Minister of the Republic reports.

“All unscrupulous companies will be held accountable in accordance with the law. I am paying special attention to this issue. Control needs to be tightened, and new regulatory documents need to be adopted,” the President said in the Address.

Construction, reconstruction and repairs of 7,000 kilometres of roads are to be finished this year. Reconstruction of the key highways – Karaganda-Almaty, Taldykorgan-Ust-Kamenogorsk and Aktobe-Atyrau-Astrakhan with a total length of 2,000 kilometres is nearing completion.

Construction work on a tunnel on the Shakpak Baba pass in Turkestan Region that is of strategic importance for the region is nearing completion. Construction work is underway on a road overpass at the Shamalgan train station in Almaty Region and a bridge crossing over the Bukhtarma water storage reservoir in the east of the country.

The Ministry of Transport is to implement the long-term strategy for road infrastructure improvement until 2029. The medium-term road repair and structural reinforcement programme, covering 2,500 km of national roads, has been launched.
