Uzbekistan earmarks over 21 trillion soums this year to develop IT sector

The authorities of the Republic plan to reach the 43 trillion-soum mark by the end of 2024.

President of Uzbekistan Shavkat Mirziyoyev was informed about the measures to be taken to develop artificial intelligence technologies and startups in Uzbekistan’s IT sector. It was reported that 21 trillion soums were committed to develop information technologies, and it is planned to raise 43 trillion soums in funding by the end of the year, the press office of the President of Uzbekistan reported.

IT services exports reached $367 million, and the number of the Technology Park residents exceeded 2,000. 

The digitalisation projects are underway in such key sectors as energy, education, agriculture, healthcare and construction. It was noted that the modernisation of the IT sector necessitates creating an adequate legal framework.

The President tasked the Government to develop a strategy for adopting artificial intelligence and developing a two-year programme of IT projects. He instructed that an Artificial Intelligence Technology Centre be set up.

The key tasks are to increase the use of artificial intelligence, particularly in the banking and financial sector, train specialists and boost employee development.
