The delegation of Turkmenistan will take part in the 79th Session of the United Nations General Assembly. The Turkmen delegates will announce the initiatives for strengthening the central role of the UN in maintaining global peace and security and promoting the principles of multilateralism and mutually beneficial cooperation in interstate relations, the press office of the Permanent Mission of Turkmenistan to the United Nations reported.
Peace and Security
Turkmenistan intends to submit the draft resolutions “Treaty on a Nuclear-Weapon-Free Zone in Central Asia”, “Zone of Peace, Trust and Cooperation of Central Asia” and “Permanent Neutrality of Turkmenistan” for consideration by the UN General Assembly.
Turkmenistan will propose that the Member States of Non-Aligned Movement begin developing coordinated approaches to incorporate a provision on supporting neutrality as one of the factors in maintaining global peace and stability, preventing and neutralizing conflicts in Turkmenistan’s initiative on the Global Security Strategy.
Turkmenistan will put forward the initiatives to convene a meeting of the heads of the UN Centres for Preventive Diplomacy in Ashgabat in 2025 to exchange experience and build cooperation among the countries of the region, as well as develop a specialized training and practice programme for the United Nations global mediators.
Sustainable Development
In this area, the Turkmen side will propose developing a Global Framework Programme on the Transition to a Circular Economy and drafting an Action Plan for the UN Decade of Sustainable Transport for 2026-2035.
The Turkmen delegates will put forward the initiatives to hold an international event to mark the World Sustainable Transport Day and the next Ministerial Meeting of the Group of Friends of Sustainable Transport in Turkmenistan.
The Turkmen diplomats will propose creating a Global Atlas of Sustainable Transport Connectivity and an Alliance for Global Energy Security and Sustainable Development.
Ecology and Climate Change
Turkmenistan will put forward the initiative to host the Second Caspian Environmental Forum in November 2025. Turkmenistan will continue the work on establishing a Regional Centre for Climate Change Technologies in Central Asia, as well as consultations with the relevant UN agencies on the preparation of project documents for a Special Aral Sea Basin Programme.
Humanitarian Sphere
In this area, Turkmenistan will propose considering the development of a mechanism for regular international consultations of the Dialogue on the Women, Peace and Security Agenda, involving the relevant UN agencies.
The Turkmen side will submit a draft resolution aimed at consolidating the annual practice of holding the UN diplomatic Friendship Games for consideration by the United Nations General Assembly.
Turkmenistan will put forward the initiatives to hold a Regional Conference on the Reduction and Prevention of Statelessness and promote the draft resolution of the UN General Assembly “World Day of Turkic Languages”.
