Tajikistan receives $141 million from European Union

The funds will be used to promote education, energy, border security, industry and other areas.

It was announced at the 11th annual meeting of the European Union-Tajikistan Cooperation Committee that $141 million in grants and concessional loans would be allocated to Tajikistan. Of this amount, the Republic will receive about $101 million in grants, the press office of the Ministry of Economic Development and Trade of Tajikistan reported.

Minister of Economy of Tajikistan Zavki Zavkizoda held talks with an EU delegation led by Luc Devigne to discuss developing the critical sectors of Tajikistan’s economy and promoting bilateral cooperation.

Zavkizoda identified trade, economy, industry, healthcare, education, energy, rural development and the green economy as the priority areas of cooperation. The agenda also focused on the joint construction of technology parks, digital transformation and financing the construction of the Rogun hydropower plant.

Zavkizoda requested that the European Union provide additional funding for key areas of development, namely green energy, construction of hydropower plants, development of transport and logistics and border enforcement, in Tajikistan.
