Tajikistan and Russia ramp up cooperation in mining industry

The ministers of mining industry of the two countries discussed the prospects for expanding trade and the importance of setting up a transport and logistics centre.

Minister of Industry of Tajikistan Sherali Kabir met with his Russian counterpart Anton Alikhanov on the sidelines of the Innoprom-2024 International Exhibition in Yekaterinburg to discuss key aspects of cooperation in the mining industry. They paid particular attention to setting up a transport and logistics centre and a technology park in the capital of the Republic, Dushanbe, Sputnik reports.

The discussions focused on the expansion of trade and the possibility of entering new markets through the implementation of joint projects. The emphasis was placed on the mining and textile industries that are the potential areas of cooperation.

Speaking at the strategic session of the Innoprom Exhibition, Prime Minister of Tajikistan Kohir Rasulzoda said the Republic has significant reserves of rare earth metals. He proposed partnerships for the extraction of these resources to produce electric vehicles.

He noted that the proven reserves of antimony in the Republic exceed 1.5 million tonnes, which makes Tajikistan the Asia’s third-largest and the CIS’s largest producer of antimony. Tajikistan has the world’s largest silver deposits, totalling 75,000 tonnes of silver and 450 kilograms of copper per tonne of silver.
