Minister of Higher Education, Science and Innovation of Uzbekistan, Kongratbai Sharipov announced that the Ministry has suspended the issuance of licences to private universities in the country. According to him, the reason is non-compliance with the requirements and quality of education, Gazeta.uz reports.
Sharipov said private universities play an important role in maintaining balance in the education system, in particular given a significant increase in the number of students going to study abroad. However, it makes no sense to open private universities if they are unbale to provide quality education.
The Minister emphasised that students who receive low quality education will face problems in the labour market.
It is for this reason that the issuance of licences to private universities is currently suspended, Sharipov said. He emphasised that cooperation with the universities in the country is strictly controlled in terms of education quality. Currently, inspections are underway at 67 private universities that operate in Uzbekistan.
