Kyrgyzstan approves law on regulating mobile phone use in schools

The draft law will be aimed at protecting schoolchildren from cyberbullying and creating a healthy digital environment.

Jogorku Kenesh of Kyrgyzstan reviewed and approved the draft law on the regulation of the use of mobile devices in educational institutions. The draft law was discussed and adopted on June 26. It is aimed at enhancing digital literacy among schoolchildren, the press office of the Parliament of the Republic reported.

Chairman of Jogorku Kenesh Committee on Social Policy Vinera Raimbachaeva presented the draft law at the session. She noted that this initiative is to protect children from cyberbullying and improve their academic performance.

This law regulates the uses of mobile devices in educational institutions to create safe and ethical learning environments. This initiative is also aimed at enhancing digital literacy among schoolchildren and improving their information technology skills.

Some parliamentarians noted that the draft law could be replaced by a decree of the Ministry of Education. They also argue that this initiative does not solve the problem of using mobile devices by children in public places. To date, many schools have banned the use of smartphones and other gadgets. Thus, the school contributes to knowledge acquisition and creates a more conducive learning environment.
