President of Tajikistan extends condolences to Vladimir Putin

Emomali Rahmon said it is with great sadness that the Republic received the news of the terrorist attack in Dagestan.

President of Tajikistan Emomali Rahmon extends his condolences to RF President Vladimir Putin over the terrorist attacks in Dagestan, when unknown assailants attacked a synagogue, church and traffic police post in Makhachkala and Derbent, the press office of the President of the Republic reported.

Emomali Rahmon said it is with great sadness that Tajikistan received the news of the terrorist attack, in which several law enforcement officers and civilians were killed and injured. The President extends his condolences to the families of the victims and wished a speedy recovery to the injured.

Emomali Rahmon noted that the Republic is working together on a bilateral basis and within the international and regional organisations to counter terrorism.

On June 23, unknown assailants attacked a synagogue, church and traffic police post in Dagestan and killed 17 people, including 15 police officers. The counter-terrorism operation (CTO) was launched in Makhachkala and Derbent; several attackers are dead and police are hunting for others. An investigation is underway, and a criminal case has been initiated under Article 205 on a terrorist act of the Criminal Code of the Russian Federation.

The days of mourning were declared in Dagestan on June 24-26 as a mark of grief and respect for the victims. Flags will be lowered to half-mast throughout the region on these days.
