President of Tajikistan Emomali Rahmon expressed dissatisfaction with the current science activities in the country. Speaking at the meeting with scientists and education professionals, he said scientific research results do not meet modern requirements despite the support from the state and Government, the press office of the President of Tajikistan reported.
Science contributes only 0,1% to Tajikistan’s GDP, which is unacceptably low.
The President expects scientists to work more effectively. He proposed implementing structural reforms, including at the National Academy of Sciences. He noted that the reports showed that some members and employees of the Academy were doing insufficiently good research in 2021-2023.
Emomali Rahmon said 225 million somoni have been allocated to research institutions in 2024, which is 45 million more than a year ago. It is planned to establish new scientific organisations, including the Institute for Asian and European Studies and the Glacier Research Centre.
