On the sidelines of the forum dedicated to the Turkmenistan Independence Day, Minister of Foreign Affairs, Deputy Prime Minister Rashid Meredov commented on the foreign policy aimed at resolving pressing issues of global and regional significance. He highly appreciated the role of the UN Regional Centre for Preventive Diplomacy for Central Asia (UNRCCA), located in Ashgabat. This was reported by a CentralAsia.news correspondent.
Speaking about areas of interaction, Meredov named several of them. These are the Preventive Diplomacy Academy (youth), the Dialogue of Women of Central Asia, and the Task Force on the Legal Aspects of Water and Energy Cooperation in Central Asia.
In this context, the official noted that Turkmenistan intends to continue cooperating with the regional center, helping to create favorable conditions for effective joint steps.
The deputy prime minister recalled that a few days ago in New York, president of Turkmenistan Serdar Berdimuhamedov and UN Secretary General Antonio Guterres quite powerfully discussed the work of UNRCCA.
— This is truly the first specialized structure of the community of nations, which aims to ensure peace, security and stability in such an important region of the planet as Central Asia. Moreover, one of the main goals of the center is to prevent conflicts, and, if we look deeper, to eradicate the causes of disagreements. The center has been successfully coping with this task for a decade and a half, — Meredov said.
The international conference «Independence of Turkmenistan: experience and prospects for the development of international cooperation», dedicated to the 32nd anniversary of independence, was held at the Institute of International Relations of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs of Turkmenistan on September 22.
