Kyrgyzstan seeks to export electricity to Russia and other countries of the Eurasian Economic Union (EAEU), TASS reports.
The Second Eurasian Economic Forum has become a platform for the statement of Minister of Energy of the Kyrgyz Republic Taalaibek Ibrayev. He stressed that cooperation with Russia in the energy sector could become long-term and even everlasting.
In the near future, Kyrgyzstan may begin exporting electricity to Russia, and its membership in the EAEU will let the Republic operate on the markets of the EAEU Member States.
According to Ibrayev, Kyrgyzstan is able to produce about 142-145 billion kWh of electricity annually, but it uses only 10-12 percent of its resources. It is for this reason that the Republic often experiences an electricity shortage, which reaches 3 billion kWh per year. Kyrgyzstan has to import electricity from neighbouring countries and the Russian Federation to cover electricity consumption.
