Astana hosts meeting on Kazakhstan-EU partnerships

Representatives of the ministries and departments of Kazakhstan, the divisions of the European Commission and diplomatic missions took part in the meeting.

On May 23, the capital of Kazakhstan hosted the 20th meeting of the Republic of Kazakhstan — European Union Cooperation Committee that brought together representatives of the ministries and departments of the Republic and the divisions of the European Commission and employees of the foreign embassies accredited in Kazakhstan, the press office of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs of Kazakhstan reports.

Deputy Minister of Foreign Affairs of Kazakhstan Roman Vasilenko and Director for Russia, Eastern partnership, Central Asia and OSCE at the European External Action Service Luc Devigne co-chaired the meeting.

The meeting focused on building up cooperation in key areas to implement the Enhanced Partnership and Cooperation Agreement between Kazakhstan and the European Union.

The participants discussed the prospects for strengthening cooperation in transport, energy, science, education and ecology and exchanged views on the possibility of easing the visa rules for citizens of Kazakhstan in the EU countries.

The agenda covered the practical implementation of the strategies, agreements and programmes aimed at enhancing partnerships between Kazakhstan and the European Union, including in the Central Asia — European Union format.
