At initiative of Ashgabat, UN proclaims November 26 as World Sustainable Transport Day

The resolution was adopted at the 70th plenary meeting of the 77th session of the UN General Assembly.
The 70th plenary meeting of the 77th session of the United Nations General Assembly took place in New York. As part of this event, a resolution proclaiming November 26 as World Sustainable Transport Day was unanimously adopted. The draft document was developed by Turkmenistan. It was reported to CentralAsia.news by the press office of the MFA of the state.

The resolution was co-sponsored by 67 countries. The day was chosen due to holding the first United Nations Global Sustainable Transport Conference in Ashgabat on November 26, 2016.

During the plenary meeting, the draft document was presented by Aksoltan Atayeva, Permanent Representative of Turkmenistan to the United Nations. As per the operative part of the resolution, the High-Level Meeting on Sustainable Transport will be held in New York. This event will stimulate the implementation of the goals in the field of transport, which are laid down in the 2030 agenda.

At the initiative of Turkmenistan, 2023 was proclaimed by the UN as the «International Year of Dialogue as a Guarantee of Peace».
