Uzbek weightlifters win first medals of championships in Korea

The Uzbek weightlifters are performing at the continental championships in South Korea.

The Uzbek weightlifters have brought the first medals of the Asian Weightlifting Championships, which is taking place in the South Korean city of Jinju, to the national team, the National News Agency of Uzbekistan reported.

Jamila Panfilova, who competes in the 55 kg weight category, won two bronze medals; her result is 86 kg in the snatch and 105 kg in the clean and jerk. Nigora Abdullaeva ranks among the top ten strongest athletes in this weight category.

14 athletes from Uzbekistan are performing at the Asian Weightlifting Championships. Among them are the experienced weightlifters who have performed at the championships and won medals: Akbar Zhuraev, Ruslan Nurudinov, Adkham Ergashev and Tursunoy Zhabborova, as well as the beginners who are competing in the championships for the first time in their career: Diyorbek Ruzmetov, Sunnatilla Usarov and Kurbonmurod Nomozov.

Athletes from 35 Asian countries are performing at the continental championships.

The Asian Weightlifting Championships will end on May 13. The ranking points earned by athletes in the championships will help them get to the 2024 Olympics in Paris.
