Sadyr Japarov unveils memorial to Kyrgyz soldiers near Rzhev

The monument featuring three peaks with snow caps of the Ala-Too Mountains is built in honour of the soldiers from the Kyrgyz SSR who perished in the Battle of Rzhev.

On May 7, President of Kyrgyzstan Sadyr Japarov unveiled the memorial to the Kyrgyz soldiers who perished in the Battle of Rzhev of the Great Patriotic War during his official visit to Moscow. He stressed that the feats of arms and sacrifices of those who fought on the battlefields should not be forgotten, and they would forever remain in memory, the press office of the President of Kyrgyzstan reports.

«I want to note the contribution of our compatriots to the common victory. It is symbolic that the land of Rzhev was chosen for the monument that features our mountains. It is well known that the Rzhev-Vyazma ledge was one of the areas of the longest and bloodiest battles of the Great Patriotic War,» Japarov said at the opening ceremony.

The monument features the three mountains embodying the Ala-Too Mountains. Japarov said the monument will serve as a symbol of our eternal memory of all the heroes who fought for a brighter future.

Japarov noted that more than 363,000 Kyrgyz people participated in the Great Patriotic War, of whom about 100,000 died. 150,000 Kyrgyz people received orders and medals, of whom 73 are the Heroes of the Soviet Union, and 22 are the Full Cavaliers of the Order of Glory.
