Assistant Secretary of State visits Kyrgyzstan

His aim is to continue what the U.S. Secretary of State started in February.

Assistant Secretary of State for South and Central Asian Affairs Donald Lu is leading the U.S. delegation to Kyrgyzstan and Tajikistan. His aim is to follow up the successful trip of the U.S. Secretary of State to the region in February, discuss a wide range of issues of mutual interest and strengthen regional ties to build more stable and prosperous Central Asia, the U.S. Department of State reported to CentralAsia.news.

The visit will last from 22 to 27 April. In Bishkek, Assistant Secretary Donald Lu will meet with the high-ranking government officials to advance the bilateral and regional goals discussed during the fruitful annual US-Kyrgyzstan bilateral consultations in March.

He will meet with the heads of the economic bloc and civil society activists to discuss ways the United States can better support the Kyrgyz creative economy, women’s economic empowerment, human rights and freedom of the press.

The Assistant Secretary will underscore the US’s continued commitment to the sovereignty, territorial integrity and independence of Kyrgyzstan and Tajikistan.
