Kyrgyzstan proposes that France swap external debt for environmental projects

The Kyrgyz delegation invited the Paris Club to take part in green projects through setting up a Trust Fund in Kyrgyzstan.

Deputy Minister of Finance of the Kyrgyz Republic Ruslan Tatikov and Ambassador Extraordinary and Plenipotentiary of Kyrgyzstan to France Sadyk Sher-Niyaz met with Secretary General of the Paris Club Philippe Guyonnet Duperat and Head of the Department of the Ministry of Economics and Finance of France Vincent Pringot, the press office of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs of Kyrgyzstan reported.

The Kyrgyz delegation informed that Kyrgyzstan is inviting all bilateral creditors to swap the debt for the projects on environmental protection, ecology and in socially important areas.

In this regard, the official Bishkek called on the Paris Club to take part in green projects through setting up a Trust Fund in Kyrgyzstan, which will allow making a joint contribution to address environmental challenges on a global scale.

Following the meeting, the parties agreed that the French side would open a line of credit for priority projects in Kyrgyzstan and allocate a grant for the development of a feasibility study and business plans.

As was reported, President of Kyrgyzstan Sadyr Japarov addressed a proposal to the creditor countries to reduce the debt burden of Kyrgyzstan through arranging debt-for-environment swaps.
