Turkmenistan and Iran to join efforts in fighting climate change

The head of the Turkmen MFA and the vice president of Iran noted the need for establishing the corresponding cooperation.
A delegation of the Islamic Republic of Iran headed by Vice-President and Head of the Department of Environment of Iran Ali Salajege paid a visit to Ashgabat. The officials were received by the Minister of Foreign Affairs of Turkmenistan Rashid Meredov. The parties noted the need for joining efforts in fighting climate change. It was reported to CentralAsia.news by the press office of the Turkmen ministry.

Civil servants agreed that Ashgabat and Tehran should intensify cooperation in the field of solving environmental problems in the region. Particular attention was paid to the relevance of consolidating efforts in the framework of combating desertification and sandstorms, as well as at the level of water issues.

The participants of the talks noted the importance of holding an international conference «Partnership for Food Security under Climate Change» in Turkmenistan.

At the event, representatives of the Ministry of Agriculture and Environmental Protection of Turkmenistan and the regional office of the Food and Agriculture Organization of the United Nations signed a document regarding the creation of a digital land cadastre in the country.
