Bishkek and Moscow discuss joint disaster preparedness and response efforts

Zhaparov expressed gratitude to Russia for donating 40 Russian-made fire trucks.

On March 1, Prime Minister of the Kyrgyz Republic Akylbek Zhaparov met with RF Minister for Civil Defence, Emergency Situations and Elimination of Consequences of Natural Disasters Alexander Kurenkov. The interlocutors discussed the prospects of cooperation and coordination of disaster preparedness and response efforts, the press service of the government of Kyrgyzstan reports.

«Today, the departments of the two countries are fruitfully cooperating in protecting the population and territory from natural hazards and man-made disasters,» Zhaparov said.

The Prime Minister thanked Moscow for providing technical assistance and donating 40 Russian-made fire engines.

Kurenkov noted that Kyrgyzstan-Russia relations are traditionally friendly and based on mutual respect, emphasising that Moscow is always open to cooperation and interested in the development and prosperity of Kyrgyzstan.

The Russian Minister commended the Kyrgyz rescuers for their effective work during the rescue operations in Turkey after the devastating earthquake that occurred on February 6.
