Zhaparov views Kyrgyzstan as ideal centre for regional trade and transport

The Prime Minister noted that the location of Central Asia makes it an important region for transport corridors.

On February 28, Prime Minister of the Kyrgyz Republic Akylbek Zhaparov delivered a speech at the roundtable meeting on the development of transport routes in Bishkek, noting that the location of Kyrgyzstan makes it an ideal centre for trade and transport, the press office of the Government of Kyrgyzstan reports.

The Chairman of the Cabinet of Ministers noted that the economic winds in the country have changed and became favourable, and the Republic is moving away from the paradigm of survival, striving for development.

He said the New Silk Road, also known as the Belt and Road Initiative, is a vast infrastructure project launched by China to connect Asia, Europe and Africa through a network of roads, railways, ports and other infrastructure projects.

Zhaparov believes that Kyrgyzstan plays a vital role in this project, as it has a strategic location at the crossroads of major transport routes linking China with Europe and the Middle East. He said the Republic is actively promoting its involvement in this project, which can open up significant investment and trade opportunities.
