Kazakhstan to modernise sports and tourism infrastructures

The Government discussed the draft development concepts of physical culture and sports and the tourism industry for 2023-2029.

On February 15, Prime Minister Alikhan Smailov held a regular government meeting to discuss the draft development concepts of physical culture and sports and the tourism industry for 2023-2029. The document aims to involve the population in regular physical activity and sports and promote sports, the press office of the Prime Minister of Kazakhstan reported to CentralAsia.news.

The Concept envisages building new sports infrastructure facilities within walking distance in cities, sports centres in the regions and modular sports facilities in rural settlements.

“Now sports grounds where children and adults can do physical exercise appear in the yards of many cities. This is a very good practice, which is becoming increasingly popular among citizens of Kazakhstan. We must continue to build such facilities to give everyone access to basic sports activities,” the Chairman of the Government noted.

Discussing the promotion of tourism in the country, the participants noted that the   proposed measures provide for the modernisation of infrastructure in 10 major tourist destinations, improvement of the quality of service and promotion of the tourism potential of Kazakhstan on the international platforms.

It is planned to build and reconstruct the highways leading to the Balkhash, Kapshagay, Alakol and Bayanaul resorts, provide the mobile network coverage in the recreation areas and build engineering networks in the Shchuchinsko-Borovoye resort and more water rescue stations on the water reservoirs.

The implementation of these measures by 2030 will allow increasing the number of domestic tourists to 11 million, foreign tourists up to 4 million and employment rate in the industry up to 800,000 and place Kazakhstan among the top 50 scoring countries in the WEF’s Travel and Tourism Competitiveness Index.
