Kyrgyzstan to convert residential buildings and enterprises in Bishkek to natural gas

The Deputy Prime Minister discussed comprehensive measures to fight smog in the capital city.

On February 10, Deputy Chairman of the Cabinet of Ministers of the Kyrgyz Republic Bakyt Torobaev held a meeting to discuss the Roadmap to fight smog in Bishkek. He said the conversion of houses and enterprises to natural gas was under consideration, the press office of the Government of Kyrgyzstan reported.

Noting that the problem of smog remains in the background every year, which have a severe public health impact, Torobaev highlighted the need to strengthen measures to avoid this problem at a local level.

“Instead of waiting for the problem to appear, the heads of the departments should take measures in accordance with the Roadmap aiming to fight the causes of smog and provide monthly real information about the emerging situation,” Torobaev said.

According to experts, one of the major causes of smog in the capital city is the use of coal and the burning of automobile rubber and sewing waste in new buildings and private baths.

With the aim of solving this problem, the authorities of Kyrgyzstan are considering converting residential buildings and small businesses to natural gas. Sewing waste is planned to be recycled rather than burnt.
