Bishkek warns about increased security risks for countries neighbouring Afghanistan

International security issues with the focus on the settlement of the situation in Afghanistan were discussed at a meeting in Moscow.

On February 8, Secretary of the Security Council of the Kyrgyz Republic Marat Imankulov participated in the 5th Multilateral Meeting of Secretaries of Security Councils/National Security Advisers on Afghanistan. The meeting took place in Moscow, the press office of the President of Kyrgyzstan reports.

The meeting focused on achieving political stability and resolving the crisis in Afghanistan.

The Kyrgyz side stressed that the situation in Afghanistan continues to be extremely difficult due to terrorism, extremism and illicit drug trafficking. In this regard, Imankulov believes that this situation increases security risks for the countries neighbouring Afghanistan and the region as a whole.

He added that the countries that wish peace and stability to Afghanistan are tasked to actively search for and promptly use effective approaches and mechanisms to settle the situation.

The participants of the meeting agreed to continue multilateral consultations among Secretaries of Security Councils on Afghanistan on an annual basis.
