Uzbekistan and Singapore stand ready to intensify cooperation

The roundtable meeting focused on the current state and prospects of Uzbekistan-Singapore trade, economic and investment partnerships.

On January 10, the roundtable entitled «Uzbekistan and Singapore: Prospects for Mutually Beneficial Partnerships» organised jointly by the International Institute for Central Asian Studies and Nanyang Technological University’s S. Rajaratnam School of International Studies took place in Singapore, the Dunyo News Agency reported.

Representatives of ministries and departments of Singapore, experts from research and analytical institutes, the International Institute for Central Asian Studies, the Centre for Economic Research and Reforms, the Institute for Strategic and Interregional Studies and the Ministry of Foreign Affairs of Uzbekistan attended the event.

Speaking at the roundtable meeting, Ambassador of Uzbekistan to Singapore Kahromon Shakirov highly evaluated the level of cooperation between the two countries, emphasising the existence of significant prospects for furthering it in the political and economic spheres. The countries strengthen bilateral ties in the trade, economic, investment, cultural and humanitarian spheres.

Director of the Centre for Economic Research and Reforms Obid Khakimov focused on the consistent and sustainable development of Uzbekistan-Singapore relations.

The Singaporean side learned about the aspects of the New Uzbekistan Development Strategy and the priority areas of foreign policy. Singaporean experts positively evaluated the prospects for building up cooperation in key areas. Director of the Emerging Markets Division of the Ministry of Trade and Industry of Singapore Denise Carrie-Anne Pereira said Uzbekistan occupies a significant place in the system of economic relations among the Central Asia countries.

The participants noted that the promising areas of economic cooperation include tourism, logistics, information technology, green energy, as well as agricultural exports from Uzbekistan to Singapore.
