Kazakhstan to introduce digital tenge into national economy within two years

On December 20, President of Kazakhstan Kassym-Zhomart Tokayev held a working meeting with Chairman of the National Bank Galymzhan Pirmatov, who reported on the progress of the implementation of the monetary strategy. In particular, he reported on the plans to introduce digital payment tools, the press office of Akorda reported.

The President was informed about the current situation in the external and internal markets and the gold and foreign exchange fund and the inflation dynamics and forecast. In general, the Chairman of the National Bank stated a positive dynamics driven by the historic increase in the number of deposits, the stabilization of the foreign exchange market and the further intensification of lending operations.

Presenting a study on the introduction of the digital tenge, Pirmatov reported on the successful test of the specialized platform at the market entities, consumer community and retail outlets.

The Chairman of the National Bank added that the introduction of a digital payment tool into the national economic model would significantly expand the area of non-cash payments, ensure transparency in government spending and provide opportunities for structuring innovative financial products. The digital tenge will be introduced in three stages by the end of 2025, Galymzhan Pirmatov said.

The Kazakh leader positively evaluated the financial system modernization plans and set the tasks to implement the project in a proper and timely manner.
