Uzbek leader discusses implementation of railway projects

The reports on the progress of construction works on the transnational rail corridors were presented to the President.

On December 16, President of Uzbekistan Shavkat Mirziyoyev reviewed the implementation plans of major international railway projects, the press office of the President of Uzbekistan reported.

The participants reported on the preparations for the launch of construction on the 445-km Uzbekistan-Kyrgyzstan-China railway. The three states signed the tripartite Memorandum of Understanding in September this year, and Chinese experts conducted the first field surveys in November. The government officials reported on the plans to open a project office in Bishkek and hold talks on project financing with international financial organisations.

The participants informed the President about the progress of construction works on the Termez-Mazar-i-Sharif-Kabul-Peshawar railway, in particular the survey expedition from Mazar-i-Sharif in Afghanistan to Torkham (Pakistan), which was conducted this summer. The project envisages building 765 kilometres of the railway.

Shavkat Mirziyoyev approved the construction plans of the transnational rail corridors, noting that these projects would diversify transport routes and enhance the logistics potential of Uzbekistan.
