Maternal and women’s health issues discussed at Majlis of Uzbekistan

The Chairperson of the Majlis and representatives of healthcare institutions attended the meeting.

On September 28, the Senate of the Oliy Majlis of Uzbekistan held a Kengash meeting on the protection of women’s reproductive and child health, the press office of the Parliament of Uzbekistan reports.

Representatives of ministries and departments attended the meeting, chaired by Chairperson of the Senate Tanzila Narbayeva.

The issues under discussion included measures taken to improve maternal and child health and ways to address the challenges facing the healthcare system.

The participants reported in numbers on the progress in maternal and child health, as well as the infant mortality rate that has increased by 160 compared with a year ago. They noted the ineffective work on early detection of congenital and genetic abnormalities in children and an inadequate supply of medical equipment and medications to a number of healthcare institutions and maternity hospitals.

With the view to solving the above problems, it was decided to set up a working group that will monitor the implementation of measures to improve maternal and women’s health. The working group consists of representatives of the Cabinet of Ministers and healthcare institutions.
