Tajikistan strengthens its fight against new variant of coronavirus

Currently, all travellers entering the country are undergoing additional tests.

The Republic of Tajikistan has taken a number of additional measures to reduce the importation of the Omicron variant of coronavirus into the country. Epidemic control measures at border crossing points have been toughened, the CIS Executive Committee reported in on Measures to Combat Coronavirus in the CIS Countries Newsletter for January 3-13.

Director at the sanitary safety department of the Ministry of Health of Tajikistan Navruz Jafarov said all travellers entering the country have to undergo additional tests. Epidemic control measures at the checkpoints have been toughened.

The official reported that no cases of coronavirus have been registered in the country since January this year, however the authorities are concerned about the occurrence of the Omicron variant in the neighbouring states.

Tajikistan has launched the coronavirus revaccination campaign. Physicians will be among the first to receive the third dose of the vaccine. According to Jafarov, teachers, civil servants and vulnerable groups of the population will be revaccinated. In total, almost 70% of the population of the Republic has been vaccinated.
