President of Kazakhstan holds emergency meeting on worsening coronavirus situation

Coronavirus cases are rapidly rising; daily cases exceed 5,000.

On July 19, President of the Republic of Kazakhstan Kassym-Zhomart Tokayev held an emergency meeting to discuss the worsening coronavirus situation, the press office of Akorda reported.

Addressing the representatives of ministries and departments, the leader of Kazakhstan emphasised that coronavirus cases were rapidly rising. More than 5,000 people are infected with the virus every day. The President expressed dissatisfaction with the Government that assured the people a few days ago that the situation was under control, but the situation was worsening.

Tokayev said mass vaccination was the solution and ‘antidote’ to this negative progression. The President criticized the work being done by the regional administrations and instructed that the Government expand its coordinating role in this area.

Tokayev instructed that mobile crews that would provide methodological assistance to the regions with low vaccination rates be established as soon as possible. The President noted that a differentiated approach should be taken to citizens who refused to get vaccinated.
